ALLAN MILLWARD – DIRECTORAllan started his training with the Inland Revenue in Glasgow & London. He left to join Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC, one of the top 4 world accountancy firms) as a Tax Manager. He then worked for two smaller accountancy firms before becoming a Tax Manager in 1981 with a large Scottish Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) practice. Allan left with director, Douglas Baillie to form Douglas Baillie plc. This became the largest private IFA practice in Scotland. From this point, as a director, he became more involved in the IFA side of the business and recruited a former Inland Revenue Inspector to assume his tax advisory duties. In 1989 he left to set up my own IFA practice, City Gate Consultants. This ran as a successful partnership until 1997 and expanded with the acquisition of several IFA firms. In 2000 he acquired Money Managers Ltd and formed a new company, City Gate Money Managers Ltd. Further acquisitions were made and by 2005/6 Allan’s firm was rated in the top 40 IFAs in the UK and 2nd in Scotland behind the Royal Bank of Scotland. Around this time he considered a public listing on AIM with an assessed value of £8m. He did not proceed due to market conditions and the perceived negative City view to the IFA sector at that time. City Gate was sold to Helvetia AG, a Swiss Private Wealth Manager in November 2009. Alan left the newly formed group in June 2010. In November 2010 Alan set up a small consultancy specialising in tax advice which still continues. In March 2014 he also set up Unique Partnership Ltd which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
